Acute appendicitis presents with periumbilical pain shifting to the right iliac fossa, tenderness at McBurney’s point, leukocytosis, and is treated by appendectomy.
Abdominal hernia is protrusion of a viscus through an abnormal opening; most common is inguinal hernia; definitive treatment is surgical repair.
Surgical skin lesions include benign (sebaceous cyst, lipoma), pre-malignant (actinic keratosis, Bowen’s disease), malignant (BCC, SCC, melanoma), and infective lesions (abscess, carbuncle); definitive management is usually surgical excision.
Abscess = localized pus collection; treatment = incision & drainage.
Fistula = abnormal communication between two epithelial surfaces; treatment = surgical excision.
